The Art of Origami Poetry

"Exploring the similarities between the delicate craft of origami and the art of poetry"

Monday Poetry Prompt: Origami

This week let’s write an origami poem. It may not be obvious but I think there are a lot of similarities between the art of poetry and the art of origami. Grab a piece of paper, fold in a poem and post it in the comments below. - BARTHOLOMEW BARKER

Both poetry and origami are forms of art that require precision, attention to detail, and an ability to transform something seemingly ordinary into something extraordinary. In poetry, words are carefully chosen and arranged to create meaning and evoke emotion, just as in origami, a piece of paper is meticulously folded and shaped to create a beautiful object. Both forms of art require patience, creativity, and an openness to experimentation and exploration. They both offer a way to express oneself and connect with others in a deeply meaningful way, whether through the written word or a delicate paper creation.

Folding paper with care and precision,
Creating shapes with artistic vision,
Origami and poetry, two arts so alike,
Both require patience and a creative spike.

A blank sheet of paper, waiting to be filled,
A canvas for expression, a space to build,
With folds and creases or words that rhyme,
The end result, a masterpiece, divine.

The process is meditative, a calming flow,
As you let your imagination grow,
With each fold or word, you shape your creation,
Adding depth and meaning, a personal narration.

Just like paper, words can be manipulated,
Molded and shaped, until they're perfectly situated,
The beauty of poetry and origami,
Lies in the art of creation, so calming and dreamy.
