The Star-Crossed Lovers

"A bittersweet and poignant story of two finifugal librocubicularists who meet online and fall in love, but have to part ways due to fate."

In response to

Reena’s Xploration Challenge #278

Reena provided us with several obscure words for the writing prompt.

Finifugal – Adjective: hating endings; someone who prolongs saying goodbye for as long as possible.
Meraki – Adjective: to do something with soul, passion, or love.
Stellify – Verb: to turn into a star.
Librocubicularist – Noun: a person who reads in bed.
Cosmogyral – Adjective: whirling around the universe.

In my post, I utilized all five words - Finifugal, Meraki, Stellify, Librocubicularist, and Cosmogyral.

Sarah was a finifugal librocubicularist, a lover of books who hated endings. She would spend hours in her bed, reading and re-reading her favorite stories, immersing herself in the worlds and characters that she adored. She would avoid finishing the last chapter, the last page, and the last sentence because she did not want to say goodbye to the friends and adventures that she had made along the way.

Sarah was also a meraki stellifier, a dreamer who put her soul into making stars. She had a gift for creating beautiful and unique constellations out of anything she could find: paper, beads, lights, and flowers. She would decorate her room with her starry creations, filling it with magic and wonder. She would imagine that each star had a name and a story and that they were watching over her and listening to her.

Sarah was a cosmogyral wanderer, a traveler who loved spinning around the universe. She had a passion for exploring and discovering new places and cultures, both real and fictional. She would use her books and her stars as portals to different dimensions, where she could experience amazing and thrilling things. She would never get tired or bored of her journeys, because there was always something new and exciting to see and learn.

Sarah was happy and content with her life, until one day, she met Alex.

Alex was a finifugal librocubicularist too but in a different way. He loved books as much as she did, but he hated endings because he feared them. He had a terminal illness that made him weak and frail, and he knew that he did not have much time left. He would read books to escape from his reality and to find hope and meaning in his existence. He would finish every book he started because he wanted to know how they ended, even if they were sad or tragic.

Alex was also a meraki stellifier too but in a different way. He dreamed of making stars too, but he could not do it physically. He had a talent for writing beautiful and unique stories that sparkled like stars. He would write his stories on his laptop, sharing them online with his readers. He would hope that his stories would touch someone's heart and make them smile. He would wish that his stories would live on after he was gone.

Alex was a cosmogyral wanderer too, but in a different way. He loved traveling around the universe too, but he could not do it literally. He had a curiosity for exploring and discovering new places and cultures too, but he could only do it through his books and his stories. He would use his imagination and his words as vehicles to different dimensions, where he could experience amazing and thrilling things. He would always get tired and bored of his journeys because there was nothing new or exciting to see or learn.

Alex was unhappy and discontent with his life, until one day, he met Sarah.

They met online, through their mutual love for books and stars. They started chatting and exchanging messages, finding out that they had a lot in common. They became friends and then more than friends. They fell in love.

They decided to meet in person, to see each other face-to-face. They agreed on a date and a place: the night of the new moon, at the observatory.

Sarah arrived first, carrying a basket full of her starry creations. She wanted to surprise Alex with her gift and show him how much she cared for him. She waited for him with anticipation and excitement.

Alex arrived later, carrying a laptop full of his stories. He wanted to surprise Sarah with his gift and show her how much he loved her. He waited for her with nervousness and anxiety.

They saw each other from across the room. They recognized each other from their pictures. They smiled at each other with joy and relief.

They walked towards each other slowly. They reached each other halfway. They hugged each other tightly.

They looked into each other's eyes deeply. They kissed each other softly.

They exchanged their gifts happily. They thanked each other sincerely.

They went to the rooftop together. They lay down on a blanket under the sky.

They watched the stars together. They read each other's stories together.

They talked about everything together. They laughed about nothing together.

They fell asleep in each other's arms together.

They woke up to the sunrise together.

They said goodbye to each other forever.
